Job description

New Town Day Camp (NTDC) at the 14th Street Y is a vibrant Jewish community center in the East Village, providing a fun and safe environment where children can celebrate summer, make new friends, and enjoy enriching activities. Campers enjoy excellent facilities including a heated indoor pool, gymnasium, and air-conditioned classrooms, plus a beautifully designed rooftop playground. We are seeking Head Counselors responsible for ensuring the well-being and safety of all campers at NTDC. Head Counselors create an environment that encourages inquiry, exploration, and respect while nurturing each child's natural curiosity. Responsibilities: • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and well-being of campers • Document camp activities and share daily with campers' families • Plan a camp environment with inquiry, exploration, and respect in mind • Manage the whole group while giving individual attention to each child • Manage transitions, routines, and support activities led by specialists in swim, soccer, art, and music • Mentor Associate and Assistant Counselors • Build respectful and reciprocal relationships with families; communicate consistently with pictures and updates • Attend all days of staff orientation and commit to all seven weeks of camp • Participate in all camp activities, including swimming Qualifications: • Pursuing or holding an MA in education or related field, or 5+ years of full-time experience in a preschool or school environment • Minimum 3 years of professional teaching experience in an early childhood setting • Strong oral and written communication with families, children, and co-workers Educational Alliance is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
