Assistant Camp Counselor - New Town Day Camp

New Town Day Camp (NTDC) at the 14th Street Y is a vibrant Jewish community center in the East Village, providing a fun and safe environment where children can celebrate summer, make new friends, and enjoy enriching activities. Campers explore and play in excellent facilities including a heated indoor pool, gymnasium, and air-conditioned classrooms, plus a beautifully designed rooftop playground with sprinklers and shaded areas. We are seeking Assistant Camp Counselors responsible for the well-being and safety of campers. Assistant Counselors foster a camp environment of inquiry, exploration, and respect, and facilitate communication with families. Responsibilities: • Co-construct curriculum with the head counselor based on children's interests • Create a warm and inclusive environment where children and families feel welcome • Engage children in exploration and learning through a child-led philosophy • Coach children through understanding their feelings and problem-solving peer conflicts • Build respectful and reciprocal relationships with families at pickup and drop-off • Attend all days of staff orientation and commit to all seven weeks of camp • Participate in all camp activities, including swimming Qualifications: • Teaching or child care experience in an early childhood or camp setting • Strong oral and written communication with parents, children, and co-workers • Experience supporting children who need extra support in an inclusive environment • Pursuing or holding an undergraduate or graduate degree is a plus Educational Alliance is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
