Job description

Hillel International seeks a Vice President, Accounting and Finance for a hybrid position in Washington, DC. As a member of our senior leadership team, you will oversee the backbone of a mission-driven nonprofit and play an essential role as a partner to CFO and across the organization. In this role, working in partnership with the CFO, you will oversee the Finance & Accounting team, lead accounting operations, financial reporting, financial controls, audit, compliance, and treasury. You will oversee the complex set of liabilities, endowments and types of accounting unique to a nonprofit, multi-organizational environment, with over 175+ entities that we support. You will be relied upon to lead critical operations during budget and allocations funding process. This is a hybrid role based in Washington, DC. Responsibilities: Lead the accounting function end-to-end: monthly close, consolidations, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation in accordance with GAAP for nonprofits; Oversee the audit with external auditors and IRS compliance including tax filings for multiple entities; Blend and lead excellent teams who are direct or compliance or audit; manage student relationships and deliver strong standards and audit responses; Evolve the capabilities of the treasury function: cash management, banking, credit cards, expense reimbursement, accounting operations, endowment funds, and cash flow forecasting; Collaborate with the CEO on budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and organization-wide financial stewardship; Analyze data to lead or develop in high-performing systems with clear KPIs of goals for mission-driven nonprofit; Motivate and lead a highly productive team. Requirements: 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership, including nonprofit experience; CPA required; Big Four or national firm audit background a plus; Deep knowledge of US GAAP for nonprofits, including complex transactions for contributions and endowments; Experienced in leading a team through auditing, compliance, and internal controls in complex, multi-entity environments; Systems and efficiency: hands-on leader with experience with institutional integrations and modern technologies including Workday; Clear, concise communicator with senior facing experience and the ability to translate technical accounting into accessible insights.
