Job description

The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) is hiring a General Counsel to serve as the institution’s chief legal officer. This role advises JTS leadership and key stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters including regulatory compliance, contracts, employment issues, risk management, litigation oversight, insurance, governance, and institutional policies. Responsibilities include supporting Board and committee materials, advising on student and faculty matters, reviewing and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations, managing outside counsel, and providing strategic legal guidance across the organization. Candidates should have a JD and 10+ years of legal experience, strong judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across a mission-driven academic environment. Salary: $200,000 (commensurate with experience).
