Job description
Society Hill Synagogue is an independent congregation in Philadelphia rooted in tradition and flourishing with life, emphasizing lifelong learning, social action, soulful music, and sacred community. The Manager of Community Engagement & Communications ensures every congregant feels welcomed and connected through strong storytelling and proactive outreach. Core responsibilities split between Synagogue Communications (60%) — managing the communications plan, newsletters, weekly emails, social media content and strategy, website updates, and synagogue calendar — and Membership Engagement (40%) — coordinating new member onboarding, partnering with the Membership Committee, identifying disengaged members, and supporting clergy in pastoral care. Also supports donor stewardship and relationship-building. Requires 3–5 years in nonprofit, community, education, or communications; strong writing and basic graphic design skills; proficiency with Google Workspace, Canva, WordPress, and email marketing platforms; familiarity with Jewish traditions. Salary: $65,000–$70,000; benefits include insurance, retirement, synagogue membership, PTO, and professional development. Anticipated start mid-May to early June 2026.
