Job description
Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Project Manager.
The Research Project Manager will provide operational leadership for a portfolio of NIH-funded environmental epidemiology and neurodevelopmental research studies led by the Principal Investigator. The portfolio includes complex international, multisite studies with primary data collection, neuroimaging, neurobehavioral assessments, and biospecimen collection, as well as national collaborative studies using existing data. Working with substantial independence, the Research Project Manager will coordinate scientific and operational activities across investigators, collaborating institutions, research staff, field sites, and administrative partners to ensure timely, compliant, high-quality study execution. The position will also contribute to building research infrastructure and supervising and developing research staff as the program expands at NYU Langone Health.
Job Responsibilities:
Research portfolio and multisite operations: Lead day-to-day management of multiple concurrent studies; establish project plans, timelines, milestones, workflows, and accountability systems; coordinate MRI, neuropsychological, biospecimen, and other study activities across domestic and international partners.
Team leadership and supervision: Coordinate and provide operational direction to research coordinators, assistants, data personnel, and site teams; train and mentor staff on protocols and standard operating procedures; assume direct supervisory responsibilities, including work assignment and performance support, as staffing structure permits.
Regulatory and institutional coordination: Oversee preparation and tracking of IRB submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, and research documentation; partner with institutional legal, compliance, and administrative offices on data use agreements, collaborative agreements, and data transfer requirements.
Data operations and quality assurance: Coordinate data acquisition, secure transfer, organization, cleaning, harmonization, quality control, and reconciliation across sites and systems; work with data managers and investigators to identify missing or inconsistent data and resolve operational barriers.
Grant and resource administration: Track deliverables and support NIH progress reports and grant documentation; coordinate with administrative partners on study resources, vendors, procurement, invoices, purchase orders, and payment follow-up.
Research infrastructure and communications: Develop SOPs, tracking tools, documentation systems, and scalable research workflows; lead cross-functional meetings, communicate project status and risks to investigators, and coordinate corrective actions and deliverables.
Scientific collaboration: Support research data preparation, summaries, and figures; contribute to literature reviews, manuscripts, presentations, and dissemination in collaboration with the scientific team.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree in public health, health sciences, social sciences, research administration, or related field. At least five years of relevant experience in research operations or complex project management. Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple complex projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external partners, and track deliverables. Experience with human-subjects research, IRB processes, data coordination, and research documentation. Strong organizational, problem-solving, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in public health or related discipline. Experience with NIH-funded epidemiologic or biomedical research, international multisite collaborations, and neuroimaging or biospecimen workflows. Experience training, mentoring, or supervising research staff. Familiarity with data use agreements, research data QA/QC, and statistical workflows (e.g., R). Spanish-language communication skills.
