Job description

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join Solink’s legal team. You’ll support enterprise deals and help build our privacy, AI governance, and compliance programs. You’ll advise on commercial contracts, privacy and AI, employment, and corporate matters for our hardware-enabled SaaS business, often with significant independence. You’ll report to the Associate General Counsel.

What You’ll Do
Commercial Contracts
Draft, review, and negotiate enterprise agreements, including Master Services Agreements, Terms of Service, Data Processing Addenda, AI Addenda, Reseller Agreements, and vendor contracts.

Act as the first point of contact for Sales on routine contract questions and customer redlines.

Apply Solink’s contract standards and fallback positions, and escalate deviations outside approved thresholds.

Help update and maintain contract templates in our contract management system.

Privacy and AI Governance
Support compliance with Canadian, US, and EU privacy laws, including Quebec’s privacy law, PIPEDA, CCPA, and GDPR.

Help run Solink’s privacy program, including its policies, procedures, and regular compliance reviews.

Help update internal privacy policies, such as data retention and access request procedures.

Help run Solink’s AI governance framework.

Track new privacy and AI laws, including the EU AI Act, and determine how they affect our products.

Support privacy incident response and answer customer and regulator privacy inquiries.

Employment and Corporate Support
Answer employment questions under Ontario’s Employment Standards Act and other applicable laws.

Draft and review internal policies, such as commission and HR policies.

Manage outside counsel on assigned matters.

Support other legal and compliance projects as needed.

Cross-Functional
Work with Sales, Finance, HR, Product, and Engineering to give clear, practical advice.

Explain legal and technical issues in plain terms to both technical and non-technical teams.

Turn legal analysis into short, actionable guidance the business can use right away.

Help build self-serve tools, such as playbooks, FAQs, and talk tracks, so teams can handle routine questions independently.

Promote privacy and security awareness across the company.

Role Expectations
This is a P3 level role. At Solink, individuals at this level are highly autonomous contributors who own initiatives end-to-end with minimal direction. They proactively solve problems, collaborate across teams, and connect their work to broader team and business goals..

In this role, you'll be expected to:

Own legal matters from start to finish. Independently manage assigned contracts, advisory matters, and compliance initiatives, bringing in the Associate General Counsel when complexity or risk requires it.

Apply sound, practical judgment. Assess legal risks in the context of business goals, recommend a clear path forward, and distinguish between decisions you can make independently and those requiring escalation.

Anticipate issues and bring solutions. Identify recurring legal questions, process gaps, and emerging risks, and recommend improvements before they become larger problems.

Build strong cross-functional partnerships. Work directly with stakeholders to understand their needs, provide actionable advice, and help move decisions and initiatives forward.

Create scalable ways of working. Develop and improve templates, playbooks, guidance, and workflows that strengthen consistency and help teams handle routine matters confidently.

Manage competing priorities with accountability. Balance urgent requests with longer-term commitments, communicate timelines and trade-offs early, and consistently deliver accurate, high-quality work.

Preferred Experience

In-house experience at a SaaS or technology company, ideally one with both hardware and software products. Law firm experience would be valued.

Experience with US and EU privacy laws (CCPA, GDPR), biometrics, or AI regulation (EU AI Act).

Ontario employment law experience.

Experience with Ironclad or another contract management system.

What You Bring
Must-Have:

JD from an accredited Canadian law school.

Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.

3-7 years of post-call experience at a law firm, in-house, or both.

Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, ideally SaaS or technology contracts.

Working knowledge of privacy law.

Strong attention to detail.

Clear, concise writing.

Sound judgment about when to make a call and when to escalate.

Ability to manage several urgent matters at once without losing quality.

A builder’s mindset. You’re comfortable creating processes and templates where none exist.

Based in the Toronto or Ottawa/National Capital regions
