Job description

Director of Operations | Brooklyn, NY · $100,000–$115,000

About the Role: A nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Operations to oversee daily operations and service delivery across its DFTA-funded Older Adult Centers in Brooklyn. Working alongside the Director, OACs, this role ensures centers run efficiently, staff are well-supervised, and all contractual and regulatory requirements are met. The ideal candidate is an organized, results-oriented operations leader experienced in managing people and multiple functions. Backgrounds in multi-site operations, healthcare, hospitality, or other complex service environments are welcome — direct experience with older adult services or DFTA contracts is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Program Management

  • Set and maintain procedures, schedules, and performance standards
  • Identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions
  • Coordinate facilities, supplies, food service, and transportation as needed
  • Maintain a welcoming, safe environment for older adults

Staff Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise and evaluate center leadership and staff
  • Set clear expectations and hold staff accountable for results
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training with HR
  • Address personnel issues promptly and foster a collaborative team culture

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with DFTA contracts and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor documentation, attendance, and reporting deadlines
  • Support audits and inspections; develop corrective action plans as needed
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records

Budget & Resource Management

  • Monitor operating expenses, purchasing, and staffing resources
  • Support budget preparation and financial reporting with Finance
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Collaborate across Finance, HR, and program leadership
  • Monitor participant feedback and recommend improvements
  • Communicate effectively with funders, community partners, and vendors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)
  • 5–7+ years of operations or program management experience, including staff supervision
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience monitoring budgets and ensuring compliance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to learn operational reporting systems
  • Able to work on-site and travel between center locations

Preferred:

  • Experience managing multiple locations
  • Background in senior services, healthcare, or human services
  • Familiarity with government-funded programs and contract compliance
  • Experience with NYC DFTA or similar government-funded contracts
