Position Details
The City College of New York’s Political Science Department is seeking a dynamic, tenure track Assistant Professor of American Politics, who will also serve as the director of its Honors Program in Legal Studies. The area of research specialization is open but candidates must be able to teach courses on American constitutional law, the judiciary and the legal profession more broadly.
The Honors Program in Legal Studies is a highly selective program designed to facilitate access to the legal profession by providing the unique demographic of City College students with the opportunity to attend the country’s most prestigious and competitive law schools. It does so by offering scholarships, specialized courses, assistance in choosing and preparing applications to law schools, moot court, and other services.
As Director of the Honor’s Program, the candidate will provide leadership and strategic vision, and oversee curricular development, scheduling, student advisement, and the recruitment, selection, and oversight of student fellows. S/he will also work with the department chair and development office on fundraising and external relations.

A Ph.D. in Political Science from an accredited institution is required.
Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarly achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred Qualifications
J.D. and administrative experience in academic program leadership or equivalent professional experience in law are strongly preferred.
Demonstrated interest in fundraising and resource development is highly valued.
