Structural Inspector

Position Overview

The Structural Inspector will be responsible for performing daily field inspections for NYC Parks projects throughout the five boroughs including park facilities, landscape improvements, reconstruction of existing facilities, new construction, and restoration of historically sensitive structures.

Responsibilities:

Inspect structural rehabilitation, renovation, and new construction activities to ensure adherence to the project schedule, plans, specifications, and safety standards.
Prepare and maintain daily construction inspection reports documenting work performed, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified, observed issues, and contractor activities.
Identify unsafe conditions, code violations, and site hazards; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Document and report field issues or deviations from plans and communicate inspection findings to the Resident Engineer.
Monitor and enforce site safety requirements, including compliance with OSHA regulations and NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation safety protocols.
Assist with quantity tracking, payment verification, and progress reporting.
Perform material sampling and testing to verify quality and adherence to project requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:

Active NYS Professional Engineer license
Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering from an accredited college
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction inspection or management of infrastructure projects, preferably NYC Parks facility/landscaping.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and maintain accurate records and documentation.
Technical Skills:

MS Office
Adobe Acrobat
Preferred Certifications:

OSHA Safety and Health, 10-hour
Soft Skills:

Effective written and verbal communication, meticulous attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving.
Ability to collaborate with multiple team members.
