Job description

About the Role

Luria is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to deliver SETSS to students in our Lower and Upper Schools. The Special Education Teacher will join Luria’s SETSS agency in a salaried, benefits-eligible position. Working closely with classroom teachers and the Student Support team, the Special Education Teacher provides specially designed instruction that helps students with disabilities access the curriculum, meet their annual goals, and take part fully in the life of an inclusive classroom. This position reports to the Upper School Director.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction

Deliver direct SETSS to students individually and in small groups, in the classroom (push-in) or in a separate setting (pull-out), in accordance with each student’s mandated frequency, group size, and language of service.
Design and deliver specially designed instruction in literacy, math, and executive function skills that is aligned with each student’s annual goals and New York State standards.
Collaborate with general education, Judaic Studies, and Hebrew teachers to adapt instruction, materials, and the learning environment so diverse learners are successful in an inclusive setting.
Assessment, Progress Monitoring, and Documentation

Collect and analyze data on a regular schedule to monitor each student’s progress toward the annual goals in their IESP or IEP, and adjust instruction based on the results.
Write clear, accurate progress reports on annual goals and contribute to Luria Progress Reports as requested.
Prepare for and take part in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and annual reviews, sharing data and recommendations for students on the caseload.
Collaboration and Communication

Partner with classroom teachers, the Director of Student Support and Wellness, related services staff, and the counseling team within Luria’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Communicate regularly and respectfully with families about student goals, progress, and strategies to support learning at home.
Maintain a schedule that meets all mandated service hours across both campuses and coordinate make-up sessions when needed.
Qualifications

Required

New York State teaching certification in Students with Disabilities (Initial, Professional, or Permanent), valid and in good standing, that covers the grade levels served.
Experience delivering specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in grades K - 8, including through student teaching or practicum.
Working knowledge of IESPs and IEPs, measurable annual goals, and the NYC Committee on Special Education (CSE) process.
Skill in evidence-based reading, writing, and math intervention, and in using data to plan instruction.
Strong organization and time management, with the ability to keep accurate, timely records for a full caseload.
Clear written and spoken communication, and a collaborative approach with colleagues and families.
Preferred

Master’s degree in special education or a related field (required for New York State Professional certification).
Two or more years of experience as a special education teacher delivering SETSS.
Experience in a Jewish day school, independent school, charter school, or public school setting.

Working Conditions

Participation in faculty meetings, Parent Teacher Conferences, and professional development, some of which may take place outside regular instructional hours.
