Job description

Are you a mission-driven financial leader looking to make a tangible impact? Our organization is seeking a dedicated and strategic Controller to serve as the steward of our financial health. In this pivotal role, you will be the backbone of our fiscal operations, ensuring that our resources are managed with integrity, transparency, and efficiency as we pursue our core mission.

As the Controller, you will lead the full spectrum of our accounting and financial activities. You will work closely with leadership to bridge the gap between complex financial data and our long-term goals, providing the insights necessary to drive our initiatives forward. We are looking for an individual who does more than balance the books; we need a partner who understands the unique challenges of the non-profit sector and can navigate the complexities of fund accounting with precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for internal stakeholders and the Board of Directors.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads, providing ongoing analysis and forecasting to ensure fiscal stability.
  • Maintain rigorous internal controls and ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Lead grant reporting and tracking efforts, ensuring that restricted funds are utilized in strict accordance with donor stipulations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for annual audits, tax filings, and external financial inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

  • A CPA license or an advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Proven professional experience in non-profit financial management, with a deep understanding of fund accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in grant reporting, compliance, and restricted fund administration.
  • Advanced proficiency in modern financial software and integrated ERP systems.

Success Factors:

  • Strategic Insight: Exceptional analytical abilities with a talent for translating complex financial reports into actionable business strategies.
  • Attention to Detail: An unwavering commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and documentation excellence.
  • Mission Alignment: A genuine passion for our cause and a commitment to operating with the highest ethical standards.
  • Communication: The ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders and foster a culture of fiscal transparency.

We offer a collaborative work environment where your financial expertise directly contributes to meaningful social change. If you are an organized, analytical leader ready to bring your experience to a high-impact team, we invite you to apply.
