Managing Engineer (Java Engineering)

We are seeking a Managing Engineer to lead high-performing software engineering teams responsible for building and modernizing enterprise applications that support Allstate's Roadside Services critical business operations.

Essential Qualifications

7+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams delivering enterprise applications and services. (Or Equivalent)
Experience managing or leading software engineers in Agile development environments. (Or Equivalent)
Demonstrated ability and willingness to remain hands-on with coding while leading and developing an engineering team.
Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot development experience, including designing, coding, testing, and troubleshooting enterprise applications.
Strong understanding of software architecture, microservices, distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native application development.
Experience with relational database technologies.
Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
Experience supporting applications in production with a focus on reliability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
Experience leading technical planning, estimation, prioritization, and execution activities.
Proven success attracting, developing, mentoring, and retaining engineering talent.
Experience partnering with Product Management and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading development teams utilizing React, Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Oracle, and microservices architectures.
Experience supporting distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and high-volume transactional applications.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Kubernetes-based environments.
Knowledge of object-oriented design, domain-driven design, API-first development, and secure coding principles.
Experience implementing automated testing strategies, infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices.
Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar platforms.
Experience leading application modernization initiatives, including cloud migrations and monolith-to-microservices transformations.
Strong understanding of application monitoring, logging, performance optimization, and reliability engineering.
Experience partnering with cross-functional technology and business leaders to define roadmaps and deliver strategic outcomes.
Experience within insurance, claims, financial services, warranty services, or other highly regulated industries.
