Job description

About The Blue Card
The Blue Card is a national nonprofit providing financial assistance and support to Holocaust survivors in need across the United States. Through emergency aid, specialized programs, and Holocaust education, we help survivors live with dignity and preserve their stories for future generations.

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, organized Bookkeeper to manage daily financial records, process approved payments, and support financial reporting. The ideal candidate works accurately and independently, handles sensitive information with discretion, and follows through on outstanding items as part of a small, collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks, including receipts, payments, expenses, and other financial transactions.
Process invoices and reimbursements, verify supporting documentation, and obtain required approvals before payment.
Prepare checks and electronic payments for approved expenses and survivor assistance, coordinating with program staff.
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly and resolve discrepancies and outstanding transactions.
Record donations and grant receipts, and reconcile accounting records with donor and program records.
Track expenses by program, grant, and funding restriction using established accounting procedures.
Maintain vendor and payee records and follow up on billing and payment questions.
Support monthly and year-end closing and prepare financial summaries and account schedules for review.
Organize documentation for audits, grant reports, year-end reporting, and requests from leadership and accountants.
Maintain organized, confidential financial files, flag unusual transactions promptly, and provide related administrative support.

Qualifications
Bookkeeping experience with accounts payable, financial recordkeeping, and bank reconciliations.
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel; comfort using Word, Outlook, and other office technology.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles. Experience with nonprofit accounting, grants, or restricted funds is preferred.
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience and training.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage recurring deadlines independently.
Sound judgment, discretion, and clear communication, with a commitment to supporting Holocaust survivors.
