Job description
Benefits Specialist | Brooklyn, NY ~ $65,000 - $85,000
About the Role: A multi-site healthcare organization in Brooklyn is looking for a Benefits Specialist to take full ownership of their employee benefits program. This isn't a support role tucked in the back office — it's the go-to person for roughly 400 employees across four Brooklyn locations whenever they have a question, a claim issue, or just need benefits explained in plain English. If you genuinely enjoy helping people understand their coverage and want to build something you can be proud of, this role gives you real ownership to do that.
Key Responsibilities:
Benefits Administration & Ownership
- Run all company benefit programs — medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans
- Own the benefits function end-to-end: enrollments, changes, terminations, and vendor relationships
- Lead annual open enrollment from planning through execution
- Keep benefits data accurate in Paycom and stay on top of carrier invoices
- Manage COBRA administration and timely employee notifications
- Keep a pulse on benefits trends and regulatory changes so Ezra's offerings stay sharp
Employee Engagement & Education
- Be the person employees come to with benefits questions, big or small
- Educate staff through meetings, written communications, and presentations
- Run new hire benefits orientations alongside the HR Onboarding Specialist
- Spot where employees are confused or under-informed and fix it
- Go to bat for employees when claims or coverage issues come up
Workers' Compensation
- File incident reports and C-11 forms on time, every time
- Stay connected with the workers' comp carrier and injured employees through the claims process
- Track open claims and return-to-work status with managers and clinical leadership
- Keep clean, accurate records of incidents and claims
Compliance & Reporting
- Manage garnishments in Paycom
- Keep benefits programs compliant with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and COBRA
- Prepare and send required annual notices (SAR, Medicare Part D, etc.)
- Support HR leadership with reporting, audits, and filings
- Maintain organized, audit-ready benefits records
Vendor & Broker Relations
- Be the main point of contact for benefits vendors and brokers
- Sit in on vendor reviews and renewal negotiations
- Look at plan performance and usage data to shape smarter benefits decisions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of hands-on HR benefits experience, having truly owned a benefits function before
- Experience in a multi-site or healthcare setting is a big plus
- Comfortable working in Paycom or a similar HRIS platform
- Solid working knowledge of COBRA, ACA, ERISA, and HIPAA
- A people person — you genuinely like explaining things and helping employees feel taken care of
- Detail-oriented, especially when it comes to compliance and data
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Self-directed — you see what needs doing and just do it
Full-time, exempt role based at Brooklyn locations, with some travel between sites.
