Early Pathways Advisor at Commonpoint Queens

Commonpoint's High School and College Success Division is hiring an Early Pathways Advisor for 9th and 10th graders at the Academy for Careers in Television & Film High School in Long Island City. You will deliver college and career readiness programming that builds students' early awareness of post-secondary options. The role also covers family engagement and work with school staff. Responsibilities: • Provide individual and small-group advisement on college, trade, certificate, military and career pathways • Design and lead workshops for students and families on high school success, CUNY/SUNY/Common App and college affordability • Coordinate guest speakers, panels and college or career visits • Track student engagement and academic indicators, and flag students at risk early • Communicate with families in English and Spanish • Attend occasional evening events; some overnight travel may be required Qualifications: • Master's degree in psychology, social work, school counseling or a related field • Bilingual in Spanish (required) • 3+ years working with adolescents in an urban setting • Workshop development experience preferred; college counseling experience strongly preferred • Strong knowledge of college applications, financial aid and vocational pathways
