Job description

What You’ll Do

Provide direct leadership and day-to-day supervision of Professional Coding staff, including onboarding, coaching, performance management and staff development.
Ensure client coding deliverables meet established quality, productivity, turnaround-time, compliance and service-level expectations.
Monitor coding operations, workloads, staffing capacity and performance metrics to proactively identify and resolve operational risks.
Maintain appropriate staffing coverage and allocate resources based on client volumes, priorities, deadlines and contractual requirements.
Monitor coder performance through established KPIs, including coding accuracy, productivity, turnaround time, attendance and other client-specific performance standards.
Identify performance gaps and implement appropriate coaching, education and corrective action in partnership with the Manager and Human Resources.
Serve as a professional coding SME for complex coding questions, client escalations and internal stakeholders.
Ensure coding practices comply with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, CMS, NCCI, payer-specific requirements and applicable official coding guidance.
Monitor coding-related denials, audit findings and quality trends to identify root causes and opportunities for education or process improvement.
Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, issue resolution and consistent delivery against expectations.
Develop and communicate operational reports, dashboards, performance metrics and trend analyses to internal leadership and clients.
Partner with the Manager of Professional Coding on workforce planning, client implementations, process improvements and operational strategy.

What You’ll Bring

·        Minimum seven (7) years of progressive professional coding experience, including advanced experience with professional coding, E/M, and surgical/procedural coding across multiple specialties.

·        Minimum three to five (3–5) years of coding leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience in a healthcare, physician practice, hospital, revenue cycle, or healthcare consulting environment.

·        Current Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential through AAPC required.

·        Demonstrated experience managing coder quality, productivity, workloads, and performance expectations.

·        Experience conducting coding quality reviews and providing coder education and feedback.
