About Shalom Orlando

Shalom Orlando is building the next chapter of Jewish life in Central Florida.

Home to the Roth Family JCC, Early Childhood Learning Center, Camp J, PJ Library, cultural arts, wellness and aquatics, youth and teen programs, older adult engagement, RAISE, community programs, philanthropy, advocacy and more, Shalom Orlando serves people at nearly every stage of life.

Our vision is bigger than a collection of programs. We are building a vibrant community hub where people come to connect, belong, learn, celebrate and grow.

We want someone to encounter Shalom Orlando, whether online, at an event, through a program or by walking through our doors, and immediately feel that there is something happening here and a place for them within it.

We are in a period of growth and transformation, and marketing and communications will be central to shaping what comes next.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Opportunity

Shalom Orlando is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications who can transform how we tell our story, reach people and build relationships with the community.

This is both a strategic leadership role and a hands-on execution role.

We are not looking for someone who creates the plan and hands it off. We need someone who can set the direction, build the systems and also do the work.

The right candidate will be equally comfortable developing long-term marketing strategy and handling the day-to-day work required to bring that strategy to life.

That might mean spending part of the week shaping a broader campaign or audience-growth plan, while also writing an email, creating social content, updating the website, refining a flyer or helping a department launch a program.

The right candidate will be equally comfortable at the whiteboard and at the keyboard.

This role is not simply about promoting programs. It is about building a stronger brand, growing our audiences, strengthening community connection and helping people understand why Shalom Orlando matters.

What You'll Lead and Do

Build and strengthen the Shalom Orlando Brand

Create a cohesive brand that feels warm, contemporary, energetic, sophisticated, Jewish, welcoming and unmistakably ours.

Bring greater consistency to how Shalom Orlando looks, sounds and feels across programs, events, email, social media, print, website and campus communications.

Help evolve our existing visual identity while maintaining connection to the brand our community already knows.

Establish clear standards for voice, design, photography, messaging and presentation, and make sure those standards show up in the actual work.

Tell the Story of Our Community

Move our communications beyond simply promoting what is happening next.

Tell the stories of the people, relationships and moments that make Shalom Orlando matter.

Create and edit content across channels, including emails, social posts, website copy, campaign messaging, leadership communications and community announcements.

Use photography, video and real-time content to show the life happening across our campus and community.

Help our community see themselves reflected in Shalom Orlando.

Grow and Engage Our Audiences

Develop strategies to reach more families, young adults, teens, older adults, fitness members, donors, volunteers and community participants.

Improve audience segmentation so the right people receive the right messages.

Build campaigns that support membership growth, program participation, event attendance, philanthropy and community awareness.

Use data to understand what is working, who we are reaching and where we need to change course.

Lead Digital Marketing

Oversee Shalom Orlando's presence across social media, email and website.

Develop and manage content calendars that balance promotion, storytelling, institutional messaging and community moments.

Write and schedule social content, build and send email campaigns, improve newsletters and update website content.

Help make it easier for people to discover programs, register, participate and stay connected.

Partner Across the Organization

Work closely with leaders across early childhood, camp, youth, fitness, aquatics, PJ Library, older adults, RAISE, cultural arts, philanthropy, community programming and other areas.

Help departments move from last-minute requests toward thoughtful, coordinated marketing plans.

At the same time, understand that community organizations move quickly. Sometimes a program needs an email, flyer, social post or registration push today, and this person needs to be willing to jump in and help make it happen.

Create annual and seasonal marketing calendars that help the organization tell a more coordinated story rather than communicating one event at a time.

Lead Creative Work and Production

Set the creative direction for Shalom Orlando communications while remaining actively involved in production.

Create and refine everyday marketing materials directly when appropriate.

Build templates and systems that allow teams to work faster without sacrificing quality.

Manage photographers, videographers, designers, printers and other external partners when outside support is needed.

Know when to bring in a specialist and when to roll up your sleeves and get it done.

Strengthen Communications and Marketing Systems

Partner with the CEO and senior leadership on major organizational communications, sensitive issues and community moments.

Develop stronger processes for project intake, approvals, prioritization and campaign planning.

Track meaningful measures including audience growth, email engagement, social performance, website traffic, membership leads, event registration and campaign results.

Manage the marketing budget and recommend investments that will meaningfully increase our reach and visibility.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role will be visible.

More people will understand who Shalom Orlando is and what happens here.

Our communications will feel more cohesive, more contemporary and more distinctly ours.

Our social channels will show real people and real community life.

Our emails will become more targeted and effective.

Our website will better help people discover how to participate.

Departments will have stronger marketing plans and see marketing as both a strategic partner and a team that helps move work forward.

We will have better systems for planning, prioritizing and measuring our work.

And more people will see Shalom Orlando not simply as a building or institution, but as a place where Jewish Orlando connects.

Who You Are

You are a strong marketer, storyteller and doer.

You can think at the organizational level and still care deeply about whether a headline works, an email is too long or a graphic feels right.

You understand brand strategy, but you also know how to bring a brand to life.

You are comfortable moving between strategy and execution, sometimes several times in the same day.

You are creative, organized, resourceful and collaborative.

You have strong judgment and a high standard for quality.

You are comfortable working in an organization that is evolving and where not every system has already been built.

Most importantly, you understand that marketing a community organization is ultimately about people.

Experience We're Looking For

Strong candidates will bring many of the following:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, brand strategy or a related field
  • Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills
  • Strong visual judgment and an understanding of contemporary design
  • Hands-on experience creating digital and print marketing materials
  • Experience with social media strategy and execution
  • Experience building and sending email campaigns and newsletters
  • Experience managing or updating website content
  • Experience with audience segmentation and data-informed marketing
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Experience working across departments and with senior leadership
  • Experience managing vendors, freelancers or creative partners
  • Experience with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable platforms
  • Experience in nonprofit, membership, education, hospitality, arts and culture or community-focused organizations is a plus
  • Knowledge of Jewish communal life is valuable, but curiosity, cultural fluency and a genuine desire to learn are equally important

The Kind of Leader We Hope You'll Be

We are looking for someone who sees possibility.

Someone who can help shape the vision, build the system and then sit down and make the thing.

Someone who understands that our opportunity is bigger than getting more people to open an email or register for a program.

It is creating a Shalom Orlando that people recognize, trust, talk about, participate in and are proud to call their own.
