English – Hasidic Yiddish Translator

Big Language Solutions is seeking a highly skilled English → Yiddish Translator to support ongoing translation, editing, proofreading, and review projects in the General and Human Rights domains. At Big Language Solutions, we believe in connecting the world through communication. ________________________________________ Responsibilities • Translate a variety of documents from English into Yiddish, ensuring accuracy of content, context, terminology, and tone. • Review and edit existing Yiddish translations to confirm accuracy, fluency, and appropriateness for the intended target audience. • Provide editing, proofreading, and quality assurance (QA) support in the English → Yiddish language pair. • Ensure that translations are appropriate for a New York-based target audience, taking into consideration relevant linguistic and cultural nuances. • Work with documents in MemoQ, Adobe products, and PDF files, including reviewing and adding annotations to PDFs when required. • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive client information. ________________________________________ Requirements • Minimum of three (3) years of professional translation, editing, or proofreading experience. • Native or near-native proficiency in Yiddish, with excellent command of English. • Strong familiarity with the Yiddish variety used within Hasidic communities in New York is required. Experience with the linguistic conventions, terminology, and cultural context of the New York Hasidic Yiddish-speaking community is highly preferred. • Experience translating, editing, or reviewing content intended for a New York Hasidic Yiddish-speaking target audience. • Experience with General and Human Rights subject matter is preferred. • Strong proofreading, editing, and quality assurance skills, with the ability to review existing Yiddish translations for accuracy, naturalness, and appropriateness for the intended audience. • MemoQ proficiency required. • Experience working with Adobe products and PDF annotations.
