Job description
Schedule: Flexible; approximately 10-15 hours per week, with heavier periods around the High Holidays and major campaigns
Position Summary
Congregation Sukkat Shalom is looking for a creative, organized, and community-minded communicator to serve as our Communications and Graphic Design Professional. In this ongoing part-time role, you will be the creative engine behind our weekly digital communications, social media presence, and visual brand. Working closely with our staff team, you will produce content that is warm, visually engaging, and consistent with our voice as a welcoming, progressive Reform Jewish congregation.
Responsibilities
Email Communications:
Design and draft one weekly e-newsletter and one weekend reminder e-blast each week.
Create 2-3 standalone event promotion e-blasts per week, incorporating direction and feedback from senior staff.
Design and send periodic special-promotion e-blasts for the High Holidays, fundraising campaigns, and other major initiatives as needed.
Produce and deploy all email communications through ShulCloud.
Website Graphics:
Create and regularly refresh rotating slider and banner graphics for the congregation website.
Design header graphics for each of Congregation Sukkat Shalom's programs and initiatives to establish a cohesive annual visual identity.
Social Media Management:
Manage and post to Congregation Sukkat Shalom's Instagram and Facebook accounts 2-3 times per week.
Create original graphics and copy for each post, consistent with the congregation's brand and voice.
Respond to routine community engagement -- comments, questions -- in a timely and professional manner, escalating to staff as appropriate.
Brand Stewardship:
Adhere to Congregation Sukkat Shalom's brand guide across all communications, including colors, fonts, and logo usage.
Maintain visual and tonal consistency across email, web, and social channels.
Perform other related duties as assigned or required; scope may be adjusted to meet the congregation's evolving needs.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in graphic design and digital communications, preferably for a nonprofit, faith-based, or community organization.
Proficiency in Canva (required).
Experience managing Instagram and Facebook accounts and creating original social media content.
Strong, polished written communication skills with the ability to write in a warm, community-centered voice.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines and maintain a consistent weekly production schedule.
Experience with ShulCloud or a comparable nonprofit CRM or email platform is highly preferred.
Familiarity with Jewish community life, terminology, and the Jewish calendar is a plus.
Skills and Attributes
Creative and visually strong, with a fresh, contemporary design aesthetic and genuine interest in visual storytelling.
A warm, community-centered writing voice that authentically reflects the congregation's values and spirit.
Highly organized and self-directed, with a track record of hitting recurring weekly deadlines without close supervision.
Proactive communicator who surfaces questions early and keeps production on schedule.
Comfortable collaborating with multiple staff stakeholders across different programs and initiatives.
Genuine curiosity about or familiarity with Jewish community life and the rhythms of congregational programming.
