Job description
PURPOSE:
The Cedar Knolls House Hard to Place Group Residence serves girls ages 12 to 21 who exhibit a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges stemming from acute and/or chronic traumatization. All of the youth are referred by the Administration for Children’s Services. The Group Residence provides supervised living units and programs of therapeutic and recreational services that emphasize family interaction and strengthening of community support networks, as well as increasing independent living skills. The goal for all of our youth is to transition them back to the community within a year of placement to a family member, significant adult connection, achieve housing, higher education, etc.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Staff RN is responsible for overseeing health care needs of all the individuals residing in the clinic. The Staff RN is responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, documenting, administering and evaluating nursing care needs and services provided. The duties include providing first aid to individuals and attending to their emergency medical needs; providing follow up of individuals medical problems; and dispensing medication to individuals in accordance with prescriber’s orders. The Staff RN covering the Clinic must be in direct communication with, take assignments from and report all events and clinical findings to the RN Case Manager assigned to the residence.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides nursing care according to MD orders, in compliance with nursing and regulatory standards.
Conducts rounds throughout the facilities on assigned shifts.
Monitors individuals health needs to ensure well-being.
Provides ongoing care as well as care for minor illnesses, emergencies and injuries to individuals.
Documents timely, outcome based information.
Assists in medication administration; prepares and delivers treatments as needed.
Checks medications and supply inventory, providing documented reports to the RN Case Manager, as necessary.
Assists in the training of direct care staff regarding medical information, medication administration and other services, as assigned by the RN case manager or Director of Medical Services.
Provides oversight of AMAP staff and reports findings or issues of concern to the RN Case Manager.
Monitors and ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, local and OSHA regulations.
Participates in the interdisciplinary treatment team process.
Participate in meetings, trainings and seminars as required.
Other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED:
Must possess a current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Minimum one year experience with individuals who are MR and/or ID.
Current CPR certification.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
Excellent oral, writing, communication and organizational skills.
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications required.
VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXTERITY:
The candidate should be able to read documents for analytical purposes such as health charts, spreadsheets, etc.
Possess the manual dexterity necessary for handling medical equipment, administering medications, and performing clinical procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT
Ability to walk, sit, stand, and bend as necessary to assess and provide care to clients effectively in various settings.
Must be capable of responding swiftly to emergencies, which may involve moving quickly to the scene, performing CPR, and utilizing appropriate emergency protocols.
Proficient in lifting, transferring, and repositioning clients safely when needed, ensuring the comfort and safety of both clients and staff.
Maintain the physical stamina to perform nursing duties throughout the shift, including prolonged periods of standing and walking, while remaining attentive to patient needs.
Ability to navigate a variety of environments, including tight spaces, while maintaining a focus on patient care and safety.
