Job description
About Mending
Mending is a team of healthcare nerds, software engineers, product designers, direct primary care doctors, health technology operators, and more. Our mission is to craft better health by accelerating the future of care.
Today, our products focus on Direct Primary Care (DPC). We build the technology and infrastructure that helps employers, health plans, TPAs, brokers, and DPC practices work together at scale. Our data platform integrates DPC into health plans in ways that lower costs, improve access, and deliver better outcomes for members. In doing so, we bring more patients into DPC practices while preserving what makes the model work.
The role and you
We are hiring our first Strategic Finance team member. You will work directly with both founders very closely, as well as other key leaders, and be involved in every financial part of the business.
Your work will span financial planning and analysis (FP&A), revenue operations, and supporting fundraising. This includes building financial models and doing the underlying analysis and research to get to the proper assumptions. Because you will be helping the founders make decisions, set priorities, stay organized, and move important projects forward, it can feel like a Chief of Staff role at times.
You love the pace and demands of an early startup. You want broad responsibility and are comfortable figuring things out as you go. You bring urgency, stamina, and a willingness to put in the extra hours when the work calls for it. You are just as willing to reconcile an invoice as you are to build a board presentation.
You think you can do more than what you’re doing today. You are deeply curious, learn quickly, and take pride in understanding how a business actually works – and what more you can do to make it go faster. You ask good questions, check your assumptions, and take action without waiting to be asked. You care about getting the details right.
What you are held accountable
You will own a lot. You will work with both founders daily to:
Own FP&A: Build and maintain our financial model, budget, and rolling forecasts. Track revenue, margins, spending, hiring, and cash runway. Explain what is changing and why. Help the founders decide where to invest, where to cut, and what we can afford.
Build revenue operations: Connect our sales pipeline, signed contracts, customer launches, and member activity to a reliable revenue forecast. Track conversion, sales cycles, renewals, and expansion. Keep CRM data useful and help sales and operations stay accountable to the same numbers. Understand the economics of every deal and model how margin improves over time.
Stay on top of the money: Help run customer billing, collections, DPC payments, and cash management. Work with our accounting partners on reconciliations, monthly reporting, and accurate financial records. Investigate discrepancies and build simple processes that keep money moving correctly.
Work as an extension of the founders: Take on projects that cut across teams. Research unfamiliar questions, make a recommendation, coordinate the work, and see it through. Help turn company priorities into clear owners and deadlines. Step into operational gaps as the business needs evolve.
Experience that excites us
We are looking for someone with:
An MBA. This is strongly encouraged.
4–12 years of total professional experience in strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, consulting, revenue operations, or a finance and operations role at a startup.
Strong financial modeling skills and the ability to build an operating model from scratch.
A practical understanding of accounting, cash flow, and unit economics, with the patience to work through incomplete or messy data.
Clear written and verbal communication. You can turn an analysis into a recommendation and explain it simply.
A record of taking ownership, working with limited direction, and delivering through changing priorities.
