Job description

About the Role

We’re looking for Novee’s first Legal Counsel to build and lead our legal function, with ownership across Commercial, Privacy, and AI.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, you’ll work closely with leadership and our US and Israel teams to support enterprise transactions, advise on product-related legal matters, and build the legal infrastructure for our growth.

This is a hands-on role for a commercially minded lawyer with in-house cybersecurity experience who can manage day-to-day legal work while establishing clear processes.

Responsibilities
Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, MSAs, DPAs, NDAs, and partner and vendor contracts.
Partner with Sales and Finance to move complex B2B enterprise transactions forward.
Advise Product, R&D, and Security on privacy, AI, data use, intellectual property, and technology licensing.
Build contract templates, negotiation playbooks, approval workflows, and escalation processes.
Support the legal aspects of GRC and compliance initiatives, including SOC 2 and ISO 27001, in collaboration with Security.
Support corporate governance, employment matters, and internal policies.
Manage external legal counsel and coordinate specialist advice as needed.

Requirements
J.D. or equivalent law degree, active bar membership in good standing, and authorization to serve as in-house counsel in New York or eligibility for the required registration.
5+ years of relevant legal experience, including substantial commercial experience and hands-on experience in privacy, data protection, and AI-related legal matters.
Prior in-house legal experience at a cybersecurity company.
Proven experience building legal infrastructure, including templates, processes, and playbooks.
Significant experience negotiating complex technology agreements with US B2B enterprise customers.
Strong commercial judgment, excellent drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to provide practical solutions.
A hands-on approach, strong ownership, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently in a fast-growing startup.
Based in New York City or the immediately surrounding area.
Experience as the first or sole legal counsel in a startup is an advantage.
