Job description

Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains the scopes in the Endoscopy Suite for preventive maintenance Or failure to operate. Assembles, inspects and maintains equipment in efficient operating condition.
Under the guidance of the Nursing Director contacts appropriate vendors for necessary repairs. In collaboration with Clinical Engineering tracks and monitors equipment sent out for repairs.
Serves as a member of a team of physicians and nurses in the more advanced procedures. participates in demonstration of proper techniques for pre-cleaning scopes after procedures and troubleshooting of Endoscopic equipment.
Attends continuing education classes for updates Of endoscopic equipment i.e. re-processors, scopes and accessories.
General Maintains appropriate inventory supplies for the Endoscopy Suite.
Capable of scheduling appointments through the Sorian/Epic System.
Assist with preparing patients for examination. Assists in the procedure room with biopsies, etc. participates in informing patients/families of health care services. Participates Quality Improvement.
Directs and escorts patients to other hospital departments and/or facilities as needed. performs proper handling of dirty instruments in preparation for return to re-processing area. performs other tasks within the scope of practice, requested by leadership, to ensure quality patient care.
Reports observations of patients to the professional staff to assure professional assessments as needed.
Attends annual hospital based mandatory education, including, but not limited to M day and Heart Saver.
Within 1 year of hire is to be certified in Central Sterile Processing

Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and three (3) years of direct patient care experience; or
2. Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience, as described in “1” above.
Preferred Certification(s)/License(s):
1. Completion of an Endoscopy Technician training program or possession of a gastrointestinal (GI)/endoscopy certification.
2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) within ninety (90) days of appointment.
Required Knowledge Areas:
1. Infection control and patient safety standards.
Other Training Requirements:
1. Must complete internal Infection Prevention & Control Training.
