Job description

Senior Billing Manager

Brooklyn, NY

$100,000–$120,000

Reports To: Senior Leadership / Finance
Team: 3 direct reports

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Billing Manager to take full ownership of the billing and accounts receivable function for a growing service-based organization.

This is not a traditional accounting role. The focus is on billing operations, AR, team leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional execution.

What You’ll Own

  • Lead and develop a billing/AR team of three.

  • Own day-to-day billing and accounts receivable operations.

  • Manage weekly, monthly, and on-demand billing cycles.

  • Oversee contract-based, hourly, and other service billing structures.

  • Improve billing accuracy, workflow, efficiency, and accountability.

  • Resolve billing discrepancies by working directly with customers and Operations.

  • Make sound decisions around billing disputes, adjustments, credits, and collections.

  • Identify recurring issues and fix the underlying process.

  • Partner closely with the Controller and operational leadership.

  • Represent Billing in management discussions and take ownership of issues through resolution.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience in billing, accounts receivable, or revenue operations.

  • Experience managing and developing a small team.

  • Strong understanding of AR processes and billing controls.

  • Experience in a service-based business strongly preferred.

  • Comfortable working across Finance, Operations, and customer-facing teams.

  • Strong judgment and confidence making decisions.

  • Able to investigate discrepancies instead of simply processing transactions.

  • Hands-on, organized, accountable, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment.

What Success Looks Like

  • Billing runs accurately and consistently without senior leadership needing to manage the department.

  • AR issues are identified and resolved faster.

  • Billing disputes do not sit unresolved between departments.

  • The team has clear ownership, priorities, and accountability.

  • Processes become more efficient and scalable.

  • Billing becomes a strong operating partner to Finance and Operations rather than a downstream administrative function
