Job description
General Manager – Custom Manufacturing
Lebanon, PA – Full-Time, On-Site
$175,000-$250,000 Base + Performance Bonus
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
We are seeking a proven General Manager to lead an established high-end custom manufacturing business through its next stage of growth, execution, and profitability.
This is true business-unit ownership, not a traditional Plant Manager assignment. You will own the P&L and connect sales, customers, product mix, capacity, quality, delivery, people, and financial performance into one operating plan.
The business has a respected product, a highly experienced workforce, and meaningful growth potential. It now needs a permanent leader who can finish critical initiatives, strengthen the management team, and build an operating model that performs consistently without constant executive intervention.
The Mandate
- Own full business performance, including revenue, margin, profitability, working capital, customer experience, operational execution, and culture.
- Lead manufacturing, planning, quality, maintenance, supply chain, inventory, customer service, and sales alignment through functional leaders.
- Sharpen the ideal customer profile and ensure sales priorities, pricing, product mix, capacity, and margin are aligned.
- Complete a major ERP go-live, execute a planned mill consolidation, and build traction for a newly launched high-end product line.
- Create a disciplined weekly operating rhythm with clear KPIs, ownership, issue-solving, and follow-through.
- Assess the leadership team, develop strong managers, and make difficult right-person, right-seat decisions when needed.
- Improve profitability through the right growth, throughput, quality, product mix, and execution. The answer is not another round of broad cost cutting.
What Success Looks Like
- Within 90 days: You understand the customer, economics, leadership team, capacity constraints, quality gaps, and unfinished priorities, with a clear action plan and scorecard in place.
- Within 6 months: The ERP is live and trusted, managers own their numbers, sales and operations are working from one plan, and the mill consolidation is moving with clear accountability.
- Within 12 months: Delivery, rework, throughput, customer experience, revenue quality, and profitability show measurable improvement, with a stronger leadership bench and less executive dependence.
What You Must Bring
- Repeated success leading a manufacturing business, plant, division, or business unit with meaningful P&L ownership.
- Experience leading through managers across operations and commercial or customer-facing functions.
- Strong command of high-mix, made-to-order, engineer-to-order, or other complex custom manufacturing environments.
- Evidence of completing difficult cross-functional initiatives such as an ERP implementation, consolidation, integration, turnaround, facility launch, or product-line scale-up.
- The judgment to earn trust in a tenured culture while raising standards, creating accountability, and addressing leadership gaps directly.
Strongly Preferred
Experience in cabinetry, furniture, millwork, doors, windows, building products, finishing, or a related custom manufacturing environment. Lean, EOS, S&OP, and ERP implementation experience are valuable.
Leadership Fit
The right leader brings high standards without ego, urgency without chaos, and accountability without dismissing the knowledge already inside the business. You should be comfortable on the floor, in the numbers, with customers, and in difficult leadership conversations.
