About the Opportunity
Temple Israel of the City of New York, a welcoming Reform Jewish congregation on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team. This hands-on position supports the daily accounting needs of our congregation, schools, and programs.

Working under the Director of Finance, you will maintain accurate financial records, process invoices and payments, and assist members, families, staff, and vendors with routine accounting and billing matters.

What You Will Do
Review and sort incoming finance mail, route invoices and correspondence, and log checks received for deposit.
Record receipts, deposits, and expenses in QuickBooks Online.
Process vendor invoices, confirm approvals, and prepare payments for authorized release.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and payment-processing activity; flag unresolved discrepancies for review.
Prepare bills, post payments, and keep ShulCloud and accounting records current.
Respond to routine billing questions, follow up on outstanding balances, and process approved payment plans, refunds, and adjustments.
Work with Membership and Development to record donations and reconcile gift records using approved fund designations.
Maintain organized financial files and prepare routine reports and documentation for the Director of Finance.
Assist with monthly and year-end accounting tasks and provide approved payroll information as needed.

What You Bring
At least three years of bookkeeping or accounting experience; experience with a nonprofit, synagogue, or school is preferred.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with ShulCloud and BILL/Divvy is a plus.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through, with the ability to meet deadlines.
A helpful, professional communication style and discretion in handling confidential information.
