Position Summary

The Field House Manager is responsible for the leadership, operations, programming, presentation, and overall management of the Travers Island Field House, ensuring an exceptional member experience aligned with New York Athletic Club standards. The role oversees fitness and wellness services, housekeeping, facility maintenance, staffing, the Pro Shop, and related operations. The Manager also provides limited operational support to the Boathouse focused on housekeeping, facility condition, fitness equipment safety and functionality, and member access, and supports the general management of the Travers Island Athletic Field. The Manager serves as a visible leader who promotes hospitality, accountability, professionalism, and member engagement.

Reports to: Member Athletics Director

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Operations

· Oversee daily Field House operations, including fitness and wellness areas, locker rooms, studios, common areas, the Pro Shop, and related services and events.

· Maintain high standards of hospitality, cleanliness, safety, organization, and overall facility presentation.

· Monitor equipment and facility conditions; coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and service with internal teams and external vendors.

· Submit and track maintenance requests through completion, escalating significant or unresolved issues to Athletic Management and the TI Manager as needed.

· Manage operational supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels for cleaning supplies, member amenities, and fitness accessories.

· Support the management and general operational oversight of the Travers Island Athletic Field, including monitoring facility conditions and coordinating operational, maintenance, or grounds-related needs with the appropriate departments.

Boathouse Operational Support

· Provide limited operational support to the Boathouse, including housekeeping coordination, facility condition monitoring, and member access administration.

· Schedule housekeeping coverage for locker rooms and common areas and conduct periodic facility checks to maintain Club standards.

· Monitor the condition, functionality, and safety of fitness equipment located within the Boathouse gym, ensuring equipment is operating properly and meets applicable Club safety standards; promptly report and coordinate repair or maintenance needs as appropriate.

· Communicate repair, maintenance, and grounds-related needs to the appropriate Grounds, Athletic Management, or senior management teams.

· Administer member enrollment into the Boathouse access system, as assigned.

· This support does not include direct oversight of Boathouse programs or responsibility for Boathouse operating or capital budgets.

Fitness & Wellness Program Management

· Oversee the day-to-day administration, scheduling, provider coverage, service standards, and member experience for Personal Training, Group Fitness, Private Pilates, and Massage services.

· Coordinate Club staff, instructors, practitioners, independent contractors, and outside providers as applicable.

· Monitor participation, utilization, service quality, and member feedback to support program effectiveness and growth.

Personal Training

· Oversee client assignments, trainer scheduling, and coordination to support effective client distribution and trainer productivity.

· Ensure proper administration and financial management of Personal Training session purchases and redemptions.

· Support member engagement and growth of Personal Training participation.

Group Fitness

· Develop and maintain an engaging Group Fitness schedule based on participation and member needs.

· Coordinate instructor and contractor coverage and monitor class participation and instructor performance.

Private Pilates

· Oversee instructor scheduling, member appointments, utilization, and service quality for Private Pilates.

· Ensure Pilates equipment and dedicated service areas are properly maintained and operational.

Massage Services

· Oversee practitioner scheduling, member appointments, coverage, utilization, and service quality.

· Ensure treatment spaces, supplies, and amenities are properly maintained and prepared for service.

Programming & Events

· Coordinate fitness events, challenges, workshops, and member engagement initiatives, including the Triathlon and Chairman's Challenge.

· Develop staffing and operational plans to support successful event execution.

Staffing & Leadership

· Schedule fitness staff, instructors, housekeeping, and other personnel to ensure appropriate operational coverage.

· Coordinate vacations, time-off requests, shift assignments, and coverage.

· Recruit, onboard, train, coach, supervise, and develop staff; provide ongoing performance feedback and complete annual evaluations.

· Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate expectations, operational updates, and departmental priorities.

· Attend weekly management meetings and provide relevant updates regarding Field House operations, staffing, programming, facilities, and member experience.

Administration, Communication & Member Experience

· Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports and manage employee timekeeping, payroll inputs, and required administrative reporting.

· Manage and follow up on member surveys and feedback related to Field House programs, services, and facilities, coordinating responses and corrective actions as appropriate.

· Address member questions, concerns, complaints, and service issues promptly and professionally, escalating significant matters to the Member Athletics Director.

· Maintain accurate operational signage and digital messaging and ensure staff is informed of policy, schedule, events, and departmental updates.

· Maintain a positive, welcoming, and professional environment that supports member satisfaction and engagement.

Inventory & Retail

· Maintain appropriate inventory of operational materials and member amenities in coordination with the Retail Department.

· Manage Pro Shop inventory, stock levels, organization, and presentation.

Preferred Qualifications

· Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing a fitness, wellness, athletic, recreation, hospitality, or comparable member-service operation.

· Experience in a private club, hospitality, or service-oriented environment preferred.

· Demonstrated experience supervising staff, scheduling multiple work groups, and managing day-to-day operations.

· Strong understanding of fitness and wellness operations, including Personal Training, Group Fitness, Private Pilates, Massage services, facility presentation, and member service.

· Personal Training Certification preferred; current CPR/AED certification required.

· Strong leadership, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities, vendors, programs, staffing needs, and administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and select Club events as operational needs require.
