The bit about the role
The Event Director of LegalTechTalk USA has ultimate accountability for all aspects of the brand’s performance, and manages the P&L in accordance with the brand strategy. The Event Director has responsibilities in four areas: leading the core event sales team day to day, managing key stakeholder relationships, understanding the industry, and delivering the event. The Event Director will spend up to 60% of their time being a sales leader and up to 30% of their time managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships, with the remainder of their time spent on understanding the industry and delivering the event. The Event Director reports directly to the founders of LegalTechTalk Europe with dotted line reporting into the Head of Global Ventures. The Event Director directly manages a dedicated, global team who sell, market and produce the event. The Event Director also works with operations and customer success functions located within the region who provide all non-sales services in line with launch best practices.
Key responsibilities
Leading on strategy, planning, delivery, industry positioning & ensuring financial budgets are achieved. This includes:
Leading weekly progress meetings & reporting up to the Senior Leadership Team.
Being accountable for the event’s overall performance targets, including the P+L. Working side by side with the SVP or Partnerships to ensure that all revenue targets are hit & trading updates are accurate & timely.
Work with Founders, Portfolio Heads and Hyve’s strategy team to develop the event’s value proposition and strategy, identifying opportunities to innovate within the event and ensuring that the event is fresh, relevant, and seen within the industry as a "must-attend-event" year after year.
Build and maintain key relationships vital for the success of the event. These relationships are likely to include (but not limited to) trade associations, media, and bellwether accounts.
Coaching the global team consistently to be goal oriented & working to their potential.
Contributing thoughtfully to the overall strategy as part of the Event Leadership team & being a role model for the company culture & values.
Displaying thoroughness & detail orientation about customer experience from prospect through to event execution.
Being constantly curious & staying informed on industry trends & engaging with the larger event industry.
Understand (and monitor changes in) the industry, its value chain, the needs of its participants, and the needs of customers, sponsors and investors. Ensure that this understanding feeds into the event’s value proposition, strategy, plan, and the resulting sales strategy, plan, key messages, and tactics.
Skills and expertise required
Proven experience in event management or an adjacent industry, with strong project delivery experience.
Commercially minded and results-driven, with experience managing multi-million-pound budgets and forecasts.
Experienced leader of multidisciplinary teams, able to collaborate effectively in a matrix environment.
Strong senior stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills, including the ability to deliver difficult messages constructively.
Highly organised, numerate and detail-oriented, with excellent planning and project management skills.
Agile, resourceful and comfortable prioritising multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Strategic thinker who can translate priorities into clear, tangible actions.
Curious, quick to learn and focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
Self-aware, empathetic and low ego, with a collaborative leadership style that builds trust and strong relationships.
