Cantor / Cantorial Soloist – PT – Temple Beth Israel, York, PA An Open, Welcoming Community Temple Beth Israel is a diverse and wonderfully mixed, close-knit congregation whose members represent a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, family structures, ages, and levels of religious observance and engagement, including LGBTQ+ and interfaith families. We are seeking a part-time Cantor or Cantorial Soloist who wants to be an active part of our community and help strengthen our worship, education, and congregational life. Position Overview The Cantor or Cantorial Soloist will work closely with the Rabbi and congregational leadership, with a particular focus on worship and music, B’nai Mitzvah preparation, Religious School, and community engagement. A key responsibility of this role is leading the B’nai Mitzvah training process in partnership with and under the direction of the Rabbi. Key Responsibilities: Worship & Music • Lead and/or participate in two Shabbat, major holiday, and other worship services. • Collaborate weekly with the Rabbi on service planning and music. • Support Religious School and congregational programming through Jewish music and prayer. B’nai Mitzvah Training & Religious School • Lead B’nai Mitzvah training and preparation for approximately 5–6 students per year in partnership with the Rabbi. • Develop and manage each student’s training plan, including instruction in Hebrew, chanting, prayers, Torah/Haftarah, and service participation. • Communicate with students and families throughout the process to ensure expectations, progress, and milestones are clear. • Support students through their B’nai Mitzvah service and help them build confidence and comfort participating in worship. • Visit Religious School classrooms for music education and lead Sunday services approximately twice per month. • Be present at each B’nei Mitzvah Community & Congregational Life • Be an active presence at congregational programs, holidays, special events, and community activities. • Engage with children, teens, families, and adults across congregational life. • Support opportunities for music, prayer, learning, and Jewish engagement beyond formal worship. ————————————————- More About Temple Beth Israel Temple Beth Israel is a mid-size, active Reform Jewish congregation in York, Pennsylvania, where relationships matter and clergy are deeply connected to congregational life.
