Senior Editor

Qualifications:

Significant experience assigning and editing articles across disciplines and in a range of styles, including opinion, reporting, humor, and argued essays
Editorial imagination and intellect; an eye for original ideas; the ability to build a front of book that surprises, delights, challenges, and edifies readers
Large and varied network of writers, scholars, and other potential contributors
A record of publishing writers of diverse backgrounds
Ability to guide writers and fellow editors to do their best work
A knack for display copy and other elements of magazine packaging and web publishing

Key responsibilities:

Assigning and editing stories for Dispatches
Working closely with both staff writers and freelancers; expanding our network of contributors
Helping to ensure that our coverage is compelling, thoughtful, original, and maximally ambitious
Shepherding pieces through copyedit and fact-checking; working with teams across the newsroom to enhance the presentation and distribution of stories
