Job Overview
The Supervisor, FSQA W&D guides day-to-day food safety activities across Baldor's warehouse and distribution locations in New York, Boston, DC, and Pennsylvania, as well as Baldor's cross-dock locations and other assigned facilities, providing direction and leadership to Food Safety associates. This role ensures Baldor Specialty Foods personnel work in an environment consistent with regulatory food safety standards and best practices, including FDA, USDA, state and local requirements, HACCP, and certification and audit standards such as SQF, AIB GMP, Organic, and Kosher. The Supervisor oversees day-to-day execution of food safety programs, plans, policies, and procedures to reduce risk for Baldor customers, employees, contractors, and visitors, conducts inspections, and provides training and feedback across assigned locations. This role summarizes and communicates relevant updates and measures to the Sr. Manager, FSQA W&D.
Job Responsibilities
Ensure implementation of and day-to-day operational compliance with Baldor food safety programs across assigned locations, including FDA (including FSMA), USDA, state, and local requirements and certification standards such as SQF, AIB GMP, Organic, and Kosher.
Supervise and provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Food Safety associates across assigned locations, including scheduling, task assignment, and daily operational support.
Review and verify HACCP/CCP programs, records, and prerequisite programs weekly; escalate deviations promptly to the Sr. Manager.
Conduct scheduled floor walks and GMP/pest inspections at assigned locations, documenting findings in the Quality Management System.
Oversee the Environmental Monitoring Program at assigned locations, including trending and follow-up.
Review pest control reports and corrective actions weekly and trend findings for the Sr. Manager.
Conduct internal audits at assigned locations and lead resolution of identified corrective actions.
Determine root cause of food safety occurrences, complaints, and investigations and apply standard food safety principles and practices to implement solutions; escalate significant complaints to the Sr. Manager.
Investigate and implement corrective actions from internal audits, regulatory visits, third-party audits, and complaints, documenting root cause and completion for PCQI review and closure.
Review Quality Management System records and food safety documentation weekly; validate food safety forms, logs, and checklists for accuracy and completeness.
Serve as backup point of contact for inspections and audits from FDA, USDA, Agricultural and Markets, SQF, AIB GMP, Kosher, QAI/Organic, customers, and other third parties.
Support recall and mock recall execution, traceability exercises, and product holds resulting from complaints or investigations, including lot identification and segregation, under the direction of the Sr. Manager.
Review and approve product specifications, labels, and new item creations for food safety and regulatory compliance.
Deliver food safety, GMP, and refresher training at assigned locations, supporting training content and programs led by the Sr. Manager.
Review equipment calibration records and food safety programs for compliance and effectiveness; help develop and implement components of Baldor's food safety policies and procedures with the Food Safety team; stay current on regulatory changes.
Authority to stop any process at assigned locations that does not meet established food safety standards, CCPs, or prerequisite program requirements.
Maintain effective relationships with operations, transportation, procurement, vendors, and other partners, with a visible, supportive presence on the floor.
Support leadership decisions and follow through on team responsibilities; assist in other duties or projects assigned by Food Safety leadership.
Job Requirements
Comprehensive knowledge of food safety principles in warehousing, distribution, and food handling, especially FSMA, HACCP, and GFSI.
Demonstrated experience leading others and building food safety best-practice culture.
Ability to interpret and apply CCP, CP, and PC review processes and other regulatory-required procedures.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and written and verbal communication skills, especially for cross-functional collaboration.
Ability to multi-task, work independently, and mentor a growing Food Safety team.
Professional demeanor and respectful conduct with all Baldor personnel and visitors.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; BA/BS preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in food safety with increasing responsibility.
Experience in food warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing preferred.
Subject matter expertise and relevant certifications preferred (HACCP, PCQI, SQF, Food Defense, Seafood HACCP, ServSafe).
English proficiency; Spanish/French a plus. Must be comfortable working in a bilingual environment.
Technology Skills
Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
Quality Management Systems: SafeFood360 or equivalent.
Warehouse Management Systems: HighJump or similar.
Work Environment
Schedule varies by operations calendar in assigned facilities, with periodic early morning and evening coverage, 5 days/week, coordinated with the Sr. Manager, FSQA W&D.
Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
Travel to Baldor warehouse, cross-dock, and other facility locations, including out-of-state locations, as needed.
Ability to work on-site in a warehouse and food processing environment.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a cold environment.
