Job description

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland is seeking a Foundations and Family Philanthropy Officer with exceptional relationship and communication skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the Jewish philanthropic landscape. Reporting to the Senior Director, Foundations and Family Philanthropy, the role combines two interrelated components: managing 10-15 supporting foundations, with the expectation of becoming primary foundation manager for several of them within 1-2 years, and serving as a development officer securing campaign, supplemental, and planned gifts. Responsibilities: • Manage the foundation grantmaking cycle, from opportunity identification through approval, notification, and stewardship • Help trustees and families evaluate grant opportunities in light of each foundation's mission, values, and priorities, preparing research and recommendations • Coordinate foundation board and committee meetings, including agendas, materials, minutes, and follow-up, and maintain governing documents and records • Partner with the finance department on grant payments, investment allocations, and reporting • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward multiple generations of foundation families and other donors, securing campaign, supplemental, and legacy gifts • Connect families and trustees with Federation's annual campaign, events, and missions, and manage an annual campaign portfolio Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred • 2-5 years of experience preferred, working with high-capacity individuals, families, foundations, or volunteer leaders • Knowledge of the Jewish community and culture • Able to navigate complex family dynamics and differing generational perspectives with discretion and sound judgment • Strong facilitation, listening, and grant proposal analysis skills • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
