Position Overview:
Jewish National Fund-USA is seeking a Temporary Culinary & Events Coordinator to prepare and cook food for meetings and events, coordinate JNF House rentals, and support catering and event operations.
This is a hands-on role combining food preparation, hospitality, and event coordination. The position requires experience working with kosher food preparation and service requirements, as well as flexibility to support events that may take place during evenings and weekends.
This temporary, part-time hourly position is based in our New York City office and is expected to run from October through January, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare, cook, and present food for meetings, staff programs, fundraising events, and other organizational gatherings.
Coordinate catering and food and beverage needs, including menu planning, purchasing, preparation, staffing, rentals, and event logistics.
Manage JNF House rentals, including scheduling, client communication, logistics, and on-site support.
Serve as a primary on-site contact for catering and hospitality needs during events.
Coordinate with Events, Facilities, IT, vendors, and other partners on room setup, A/V, security, technology, and event requirements.
Prepare catering quotes and support catering and event-related revenue opportunities.
Purchase food, beverages, and supplies; maintain inventory and help manage costs.
Ensure compliance with kosher dietary laws and food preparation requirements, as well as food safety, allergen, health, and licensing requirements.
Assist with event setup and breakdown.
Maintain event information in Salesforce and Wrike.
Support facilities and office operational needs as needed.
Work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as required for events and organizational programs.
Qualifications:
2–3+ years of experience in culinary arts, catering, hospitality, food service, event coordination, or a related field.
Experience preparing and serving food for groups, meetings, or special events.
Experience coordinating or supporting events from planning through execution.
Knowledge of and hands-on experience with kosher food preparation, handling, and service requirements is required.
Familiarity with kosher kitchens, food sourcing, and maintaining kosher standards during events.
Strong organizational, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of food safety standards and applicable health regulations.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce, Wrike, Zoom, or similar platforms is a plus.
Ability to lift and transport food, catering supplies, and event materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Food Handler's Certification or equivalent food safety certification.
Experience in kosher catering, a synagogue, Jewish communal organization, restaurant, hotel, event venue, nonprofit, or similar environment.
Experience with purchasing, inventory, and food cost management.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods while preparing and serving food.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and assist with event setup and breakdown.
Ability to safely operate standard kitchen and food service equipment.
Schedule and Compensation:
Part-time, hourly position with a minimum of 20 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed for scheduled events.
Schedule will vary based on meetings, catering, rentals, and event needs.
Evening and weekend availability is required as needed for events.
Hourly rate: $30–$40 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
