Job description
ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide database administration, development, and maintenance support across on-premises and cloud environments, including SQL Server, SQL Cluster, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS Access.
Execute daily troubleshooting, system setup, error triage, and configuration activities for SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments.
Manage service request lifecycles from submission through closeout using ServiceNow.
Perform proactive capacity planning and system health monitoring using Idera and SolarWinds.
Respond to and execute assigned Requests for Changes (RFCs) in support of ongoing database and server maintenance.
Resolve ServiceNow tickets in accordance with applicable operational Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Assist users with building and configuring SQL databases.
Troubleshoot SQL, MS Access, and other database technology issues and application-level integrations(e.g., SharePoint) related to database support and development.
Support database provisioning and configuration, backup and recovery, patching, performance tuning, High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR), monitoring and alerting, security, scripting, automation, incident troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis consistent with GPO's DBA II competency expectations.
Prepare weekly reports detailing database support activities and accomplishments.
Maintain regular availability for eight (8) hours per day during GPO core business hours of 7:30 AM through 6:00 PM Eastern and support periodically scheduled after-hours activities such as patching, server reboots, and server support.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for this position, you must meet the education and experience listed below:
High School diploma or GED is required.
Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in database administration.
A Bachelor's or Associate's degree with major/minor in an IT-related discipline is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Demonstrated expertise with SQL, SQL Server, SQL Clustering, SQL scripting, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and MS Access.
Experience creating, configuring, and managing SQL Server databases.
Experience troubleshooting database and server issues; performing maintenance, software installation, patching, and performance tuning.
Experience supporting High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup/recovery, monitoring, and failover activities.
Experience with database scripting, automation, security, and incident/root-cause analysis.
Ability to work independently, collaborate across technical teams, and communicate effectively with staff and management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates with experience or knowledge in these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Professional SQL or SQL Server certification(s).
Experience using ServiceNow for database support, incident, and request management.
Experience using Idera and SolarWinds for database monitoring, performance analysis, and capacity planning.
Experience supporting database integrations with enterprise applications, including SharePoint.
Experience administering databases across both on-premises and cloud environments.
