Job description
The City of Jersey City is seeking a qualified Peer Support Worker for the Municipal Court. Reporting to the Program Manager and Resource Coordinator, the Peer Support Worker is responsible for engaging and assisting young adult participant-defendants who have court involvement in Jersey City Municipal Court.
Examples of Duties
Job Duties:
Harnessing own lived experience navigating criminal justice and/or non-traditional educational system, engage, empower and connect with young adult participant defendants who are currently involved with municipal court.
Serving as mentors, role models and "system navigators" to young adult court users who have matters pending in Jersey City Municipal Court.
Supporting the philosophy, mission and purpose of Jersey City Community Solutions, and its strength-based services to assist participant-defendants entangled in the criminal justice system with low-level, non-violent offenses in leading self-directed lives centered on fostering productive citizenry.
Connecting court users-participants with resources and services necessary to support their individual growth and success.
Establishing rapport with court users-participants, foster trust between court and the community, and provide information on available resources to assist in addressing court matters and education/employment needs.
Ensuring that court user-participant assessments and data entry are completed on time to track participant progress and program impact.
Engaging in light case management activities, including telephone/email contact with court user-participants to support program connections and court follow-up tasks.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education: Must have at least a GED or High School Diploma with lived experience in the legal and/or nontraditional educational and/or addiction treatment system. Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist preferred.
Required Experience: One (1) year of experience in clerical work and/or addiction treatment system.
Preferred Certification: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
