Employment Advisor

Responsibilities:

Assist participants in obtaining and maintaining employment consistent with their individual vocational goals.
Assess participants' vocational functioning on an ongoing basis, utilizing background information and work experiences.
Conduct job development and job search activities tailored to the interests and uniqueness of the population served.
Provide outreach to employer contacts and serve as an advocate for participants and staff, facilitating connections to opportunities both within CMS and outside of CMS.
Assist participants and community partners with the implementation of the Anti-Gun Violence Employment Program and other employment opportunities offered through CMS.
Aid participants with documentation requirements.
Create partnerships with local stakeholders, organizations, and businesses to serve as worksites for youth job placements.
Attend meetings and trainings offered through agency partners to aid in the employment program.
Maintain required program documentation.
Assist participants and staff with concerns related to housing, healthcare, social services, and educational issues.
Deliver organizational development and data management skills.
Demonstrate excellent communication, planning, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
Researches and coordinates the use of thematic or project-based programing to ensure participants are learning through a variety of fun and engaging activities.
Produce reports and updates on activities related to educational and employment services as requested.
Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, however candidates with some college and a proven track record of working with vulnerable, high-risk and/or opportunity youth and young adults will be considered. .
Demonstrated successful experience of at least 2 years working with vulnerable, high-risk and/or opportunity youth and young adults ages 16 to 24 required
Personal or professional Experience working with gang-involvement or gun related violence preferred
Must have an understanding of, sensitivity and commitment to working with youth and families that have experienced gun-related trauma
Some knowledge of best practice in supporting the needs and older youth and young adults interest as it related to educational and employment comprehension of NYC Department of Education Learning Standards, including the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.
Experience in curriculum planning, development, and writing.
Solid training and facilitation skills.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communications skills and ability to work with staff of various skill sets across disciplines.
As required by the contract candidate must: 1) clear through hiring panel comprised of program and community partners; 2) complete a criminal background check; and 3) submit to drug testing and agree to periodic drug testing as part of a program of random testing or for cause

Work Schedule: Full time, Tuesday - Saturday, 35 hours per week, Hybrid schedule
