Position Overview

A growing omnichannel retail and eCommerce organization is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Merchant to lead category performance, assortment planning, vendor partnerships, and growth initiatives across key product lines. This individual will own category strategy from planning and forecasting through execution, while driving sales, profitability, and long-term business growth. 

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with proven merchandising expertise and exceptional business judgment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys identifying opportunities, developing category strategies, negotiating with suppliers, and delivering measurable results in a fast-paced retail environment.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute merchandising strategies that drive category growth, revenue, and profitability
  • Manage vendor relationships, supplier negotiations, pricing strategies, and purchasing decisions
  • Own sales forecasting, inventory planning, budgeting, and open-to-buy management
  • Evaluate assortment performance and optimize product selection to align with customer demand and market opportunities
  • Identify emerging trends, competitive threats, and new growth opportunities within assigned categories
  • Lead promotional planning and ensure inventory readiness to support marketing initiatives
  • Support product sourcing, private label development, and new product introduction efforts
  • Collaborate with Marketing, eCommerce, Retail, Sales, and Operations teams to execute category plans
  • Monitor digital performance, product discoverability, and customer engagement metrics
  • Analyze category performance and present recommendations to senior leadership
  • Develop business cases and strategic initiatives that improve category performance and customer experience
  • Drive continuous improvement in merchandising processes, planning, and execution


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of merchandising, buying, category management, retail planning, or related experience
  • Proven track record of managing category performance and delivering financial results
  • Experience with forecasting, budgeting, open-to-buy planning, and inventory management
  • Strong negotiation skills and vendor management experience
  • Advanced analytical and business planning capabilities
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, eCommerce, Retail, Operations, and Sales teams
  • Proficiency with Excel and merchandising analytics tools
  • Strong presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with product sourcing, product development, or private label initiatives strongly preferred
  • Ability to translate customer insights and market trends into actionable merchandising strategies
  • Leadership experience and the ability to influence across departments preferred


Compensation & Benefits

  • $125,000-$150,000 salary (based on experience)
