Job description

About the Role
The people who buy North have run FinOps practices themselves. They can tell within ten minutes whether the person across the table has done the same. We want that person on our side of the table, and we want them shaping what we build next.

This is not a sales role and it is not a marketing role. It is a practitioner seat. You will spend your time with prospects, customers, and our product team, and the thread running through all three is that you have done this work at scale with real money on the line.

We are hiring two FinOps Advocates. One goes deep on AWS. This position will serve as our authority on GCP and Azure. You should have deep expertise in at least one of these platforms and meaningful hands-on experience with the other.

You will report to Matt Biringer, our CEO and Co-Founder, and partner closely with our Principal Product Manager.

What You'll Do
Join evaluations as the technical authority on GCP and Azure costs, from the first call through close
Walk cloud leaders and CFOs through what their GCP and Azure billing data is actually telling them and where the meaningful savings opportunities are
Run proof-of-concept engagements and answer difficult questions directly, including when the honest answer is that North is not the right fit yet
Stay involved after signature, helping new customers build a FinOps practice around North rather than simply switching it on
Identify accounts where adoption has stalled, diagnose why, and address the underlying issues before the renewal conversation does
Pressure-test releases against real customer environments before they ship and identify where our GCP or Azure coverage is incomplete or incorrect
Help North account for the differences between GCP and Azure billing structures, commitments, allocation models, discounts, and organizational hierarchies
Work with our Principal Product Manager and CEO to determine what goes on the roadmap and what comes off it, bringing evidence from the field
Represent North publicly through writing, speaking, and involvement in the FinOps and cloud communities

What We're Looking For
5+ years running cloud FinOps, either as the head of a practice inside a company or in product management at a vendor in this space
Ownership of cloud cost outcomes rather than advisory involvement alone
Deep fluency in GCP, Azure, or both, with hands-on experience interpreting billing data and identifying the operational activity behind it
For GCP: experience with Cloud Billing exports, BigQuery billing data, resource hierarchy, labels, Committed Use Discounts, and enterprise pricing agreements
For Azure: experience with Azure Cost Management and Billing, management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, tags, Reservations, Savings Plans, and enterprise agreements or cloud commitments
Experience designing tagging, labeling, allocation, showback, or chargeback systems that survive contact with engineering teams
Experience managing commitments, forecasting cloud demand, and balancing savings against utilization and lock-in risk
An understanding of the challenges involved in normalizing cost and usage data across cloud providers
Credibility with both finance and engineering audiences, with the ability to move between them in the same meeting
Comfort operating in pre-sales without a quota, serving as the technical authority rather than the closer
A track record of turning customer or practitioner patterns into product requirements that shipped
Willingness to disagree with a product decision and make the case directly to the CEO
Strong written communication, since much of the influence in this role happens through documents
Comfort with ambiguity and with a role that is still being drawn

Nice to Have
FinOps Foundation certification or active involvement in the FinOps community
Deep expertise in both GCP and Azure
Experience managing multi-cloud environments that also include AWS
A point of view on AI, GPU, and inference spend, including services such as Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI, and cloud-based GPU infrastructure
Familiarity with FOCUS and the realities of normalizing billing data across providers
Experience optimizing Kubernetes costs across GKE or AKS
Experience at an early-stage company where the role was not fully defined on day one
