Job description
Sixth & I is a center for arts, entertainment, ideas, and Jewish life in Washington, DC, housed within a revitalized historic synagogue dating back to 1908 in the heart of the Nation's Capital. Its talks, concerts, comedy shows, and live podcast recordings sit alongside Jewish education, Shabbat services, holiday celebrations, and social justice work that engage those in their 20s and 30s as a multi-denominational, non-membership spiritual home. Sixth & I is hiring its next Chief Executive Officer to serve as both the strategic vision-holder and the public face of an organization presenting more than 200 programs annually. Responsibilities: • Lead an inclusive visioning and strategic planning process to set the organization's direction for the decade ahead • Drive business model strategy with the Board and Executive Team, guiding balanced annual budgets and long-term financial plans • Lead and develop a high-performing Executive Team of five direct reports while stewarding a distinctive workplace culture • Partner closely with the Board on governance, reporting, recruitment, onboarding, and committee work • Lead fundraising strategy and major donor stewardship with the Chief Development Officer, cultivating foundations, corporations, and national Jewish philanthropies • Ensure more than 200 annual programs are aligned with organizational values and executed with excellence • Serve as a compelling public spokesperson with local and national Jewish leaders, arts and culture institutions, and DC stakeholders Qualifications: • Proven senior leadership experience with a demonstrated passion for mentoring teams and cultivating diverse team cultures • Experience in arts and culture, live events, media, or mission-driven organizations especially welcome • Deep fluency with Jewish life, culture, and the contemporary Jewish communal landscape • A track record of generating earned income and securing philanthropic support • Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills • Outstanding emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate politically and culturally sensitive conversations Salary: Budgeted starting at $230,000. In addition to regular vacation time and summer Fridays, the office is closed the week of July 4th, between Christmas and New Year's, and for select Jewish holidays.
