Substitute Teacher

Description
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Substitute Teacher to support our Early Childhood Education program. The Substitute Teacher provides temporary classroom coverage when regular teaching staff are absent and helps ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with children ages 2–5, is flexible and adaptable, and understands the importance of creating positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. The Substitute Teacher will implement classroom routines and activities under the direction of the Lead Teacher and/or Center Administration while maintaining a high standard of care and supervision.

Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable New York State and NYC Department of Health and/or regulatory requirements, which may include background checks, fingerprinting, medical clearance, mandated reporter training, and other required clearances and training.

Requirements
Responsibilities include:
Provide attentive, responsive, and developmentally appropriate care and supervision for children.
Follow the classroom's daily schedule, routines, curriculum, and established procedures.
Support children's social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development through meaningful interactions and play.
Engage children in age-appropriate learning activities, including stories, music, art, movement, sensory experiences, and outdoor play.
Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
Supervise children at all times and follow all health and safety requirements.
Assist with meals, snacks, toileting, diapering, handwashing, rest time, transitions, and other daily routines as appropriate.
Support positive behavior through guidance strategies that are respectful, consistent, and developmentally appropriate.
Communicate effectively with Lead Teachers, administrators, and other members of the teaching team.
Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and center operations.
Follow all center policies and procedures, as well as applicable licensing and regulatory requirements.
Complete required documentation and classroom responsibilities as assigned.
Demonstrate flexibility by working in different classrooms and adapting to the needs of the program.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience working with young children in an early childhood, preschool, childcare, or educational setting preferred.
Coursework or a degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field is preferred.
Must demonstrate an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for young children.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Ability to establish warm, positive relationships with children.
Reliable, punctual, flexible, and able to adapt to changing classroom needs.
Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative teaching team.
