Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Camera Repair Technician with extensive hands-on knowledge of cameras, lenses, and their internal mechanical and optical systems.
The ideal candidate has significant experience diagnosing, disassembling, repairing, cleaning, adjusting, and reassembling a wide variety of photographic equipment. Emphasis will be placed on candidates with expertise in vintage and pre-1990 film cameras, mechanical SLRs, medium and large-format cameras, and older mechanical lenses.
This position is well suited for a highly skilled technician who understands how cameras work internally and can independently identify and resolve complex mechanical and functional issues.
Essential Responsibilities:
Evaluate used products sent in by customers and advise on acquisition decisions.
Disassemble, repair, clean, adjust, and reassemble cameras and lenses.
Repair and service vintage and pre-1990 film cameras, including mechanical and automatic SLRs such as the Canon AE-1 and similar models, as well as pre-2000 DSLR cameras.
Film cameras: Perform repairs and adjustments to light meters and shutter speeds and perform complete or partial shutter overhauls.
Lenses: Repairing mechanical and automatic lenses from all major manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc.). Repairs include taking apart the camera, cleaning inner elements, replacing motors, filterings and seals, repairing apertures and oily blades.
DSLR cameras: sensor cleaning and misc. repairs.
Medium-format and large-format cameras: Service and repair various types including 4×6, 5×7, and 8×10 formats.
Test cameras and lenses following repairs to ensure proper mechanical and functional operation.
Maintain a high degree of precision and care when working with delicate components.
Preferred Education, Experience and Licenses:
College education and/or relevant work experience with at least 5-10 years of experience.
