Job Description – Senior Copywriter | Canada | Hybrid – Toronto
We are looking for a talented professional with strong healthcare, pharmaceutical and promotional copywriting experience who can develop compelling, compliant and strategically aligned content for our client in the pharmaceutical industry.
This is a hybrid role based in Canada, with regular attendance expected at the client's office in Toronto.
The focus of the role will be to create, adapt and evolve promotional communication content across digital and non-digital channels. A significant proportion of the role involves transforming existing approved materials into channel-specific, audience-relevant and locally compliant assets for the Canadian market, while also developing new content and messaging where brand requirements dictate.
You should be recognised as a strong brand and content partner, with the ability to translate brand strategy, clinical data and customer insights into clear, engaging and compliant copy that supports commercial objectives.
You will be expected to bring creativity, strategic thinking and strong storytelling ability to each assignment while maintaining a high standard of scientific accuracy, claim substantiation, referencing, grammar, brand consistency and compliance.
This role requires someone who can take ownership of projects from initial brief through to final delivery, including content development, stakeholder alignment, MLR review, PAAB submission support, approval management and final implementation. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple workstreams, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and using project management platforms such as Jira to track progress, manage timelines and drive deliverables through the full project lifecycle.
Creativity, innovative thinking, project ownership and problem-solving should be at the heart of all you do.
Good to have
Job Description
The role and responsibilities of the Senior Copywriter include the following:
• Develop compelling, strategically aligned promotional content for pharmaceutical brands using brand strategy, clinical data, market insights and stakeholder input.
• Create, adapt, localise and optimise content across a wide range of omnichannel assets, including emails, websites, social media, digital banners, interactive detail aids, presentations, conference materials, patient support materials and sales resources. While much of the role focuses on adapting approved materials for the Canadian market, original content development will also be required.
• Translate complex scientific and clinical information into clear, persuasive and audience-appropriate content for healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers.
• Own projects from brief to final delivery, managing content development, review cycles, stakeholder alignment, approvals and implementation to ensure delivery against timelines and quality standards.
• Support and manage MLR review and PAAB submission processes, ensuring content is scientifically accurate, appropriately referenced, compliant and aligned with Canadian regulatory requirements and client policies.
• Partner with medical, regulatory, legal, brand, creative, production and project management teams to deliver high-quality content and support brand objectives.
• Use project management tools such as Jira to manage workflows, track deliverables and maintain visibility of project status, timelines and risks.
• Contribute to content innovation, campaign ideation and strategic messaging, helping brands achieve differentiation and impact.
• Leverage AI tools responsibly to improve content development efficiency while ensuring all outputs remain accurate, compliant and aligned with client expectations.
• Maintain compliance with quality, confidentiality, security and training requirements, while continuously developing knowledge of relevant therapy areas, regulations and industry best practices.
Ideal Profile
• Degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Medical Communications or a related discipline preferred.
• Significant experience in pharmaceutical copywriting, healthcare communications or medical communications within an agency, in-house or client-embedded environment.
• Strong experience developing promotional healthcare content across digital, print and omnichannel channels for HCP and patient audiences.
• Strong understanding of Canadian pharmaceutical regulations, including MLR review processes, PAAB submissions, claim substantiation and fair balance requirements.
• Ability to translate clinical data, scientific evidence and customer insights into compelling, compliant and strategically relevant content.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects through the full content lifecycle, with strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience using project management platforms such as Jira and AI-enabled content tools as part of day-to-day workflow.
• Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, collaborative mindset and commitment to building effective client and team relationships.
• Experience in rare disease, oncology, respiratory, immunology or other specialty therapeutic areas would be advantageous.
• Experience working within a multinational matrix organisation is preferred.
• Hybrid role with regular attendance required at the client's Toronto office.
