Job description
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Geotechnical Engineer based in Houston. The ideal candidate will have geotechnical investigation, design, and construction observation experience for large site development projects (such as data centers). Key areas of experience should include ground investigation, geohazard identification, earthworks, foundations, geotechnical instrumentation, and construction observation.
Responsibilities
Planning and executing subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs.
Conducting geotechnical interpretation, ground movement assessments, and soil-structure interaction analyses for infrastructure and urban development projects.
Developing numerical models using software such as PLAXIS 2D/3D, FLAC, LS-DYNA or similar analytical tools.
Supporting design and assessment of excavation support systems, retaining walls, segmental lining systems, and ground improvement solutions.
Evaluating instrumentation and monitoring data, including settlement, lateral movement, and excavation performance, to compare predicted and observed behavior.
Collaborating closely with civil, structural, tunnelling, and infrastructure teams in an integrated multidisciplinary environment.
Supporting development of geotechnical deliverables including reports, technical memoranda, specifications, and design documentation.
Travel for field investigations and construction support.
Performing geotechnical analyses and design for:
Deep excavations and retaining structures.
Foundations and earthworks.
Cut-and-cover and underground structures.
Slope stabilization and settlement mitigation.
Pavements and site development works.
Seismic and soil-structure interaction analysis.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (Master's Degree or PhD in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering preferred).
PE license required or ability to obtain PE licensure in the near term.
Minimum 2 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on infrastructure, underground works, transportation, waterfront, or complex urban development projects.
Experience in geotechnical investigation planning, interpretation, analysis, design, and construction support.
Familiarity with soil-structure interaction problems in a variety of soil conditions
Familiarity with 3D ground modelling and geotechnical data management tools.
Working knowledge of seismic analysis and relevant geotechnical design codes preferred.
Experience with numerical modelling software such as PLAXIS 2D/3D, FLAC, LS-DYNA or similar platforms preferred.
