THE POSITION
Are you ready to guide clerical operations as a Clerical Supervisor 1 with the Department of Human Services? This role allows you to support office workflows while helping staff succeed in daily tasks at the Lackawanna County Assistance Office. You will use your leadership skills to strengthen accuracy, organization, and overall efficiency. Step into a position where your direction supports smooth, reliable operations for the agency.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position oversees clerical activities, assigns tasks, and ensures work accuracy across a unit of clerical staff. It also supports hiring, training, and maintaining office resources needed for daily operations. As a Clerical Supervisor 1, you will perform the following duties:
Work Assignment: Allocate tasks based on agency needs and available staff
Quality Review: Examine clerical work for accuracy and completeness
Staff Scheduling: Plan duties according to workload and staffing levels
Performance Oversight: Complete evaluations and monitor time and attendance
Training Support: Provide instruction to keep clerical staff informed of procedures
Office Management: Order supplies, maintain inventory, and operate office equipment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Scranton, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a Clerical Assistant 2; or
One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

(b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.

Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only - You must have or have held regular civil service status in the following classification:
Clerical Assistant 2
Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination.
The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.
Applicants must have a minimum of one year in the next lower class by the posting closing date with no break in service.
