Job description
Davis School Chicago is a proudly Jewish, college-preparatory high school opening in fall 2027 in downtown Chicago, in a state-of-the-art building at the heart of a great city for learning. Every adult at Davis is an educator and a culture-builder, held to two expectations at once: deep human warmth and uncompromising intellectual excellence. Davis is hiring a founding Head Librarian & Capstone Chair to build the library, the research program, and the internship pipeline that put downtown Chicago inside every student's education. The library is a true library — books worth loving and real research help — that is also a makerspace, a home for learning games and game design, and the school's launch pad into the city. Responsibilities: • Lead the design of a vertically aligned research curriculum, from ninth-grade information literacy through Capstone, grounded in AASL National School Library Standards • Open the library itself: the space, the opening-day collection, college-level digital access, and the systems that make it findable • Design, equip, and run the makerspace, with training and safety systems first • Oversee Capstone experiences across tracks from engineering and computer science to business, law, the performing arts, and AP Seminar/AP Research • Build internship and mentorship relationships across Chicago, run on the NSEE principles of good practice • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate department faculty, and teach research and information-literacy instruction daily • Own the safety and risk framework: partner vetting and agreements, supervision, consent, and makerspace training Qualifications: • Master's degree required — Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited) preferred, or Humanities, Curriculum, Education, or Educational Leadership; doctorate preferred • Illinois School Librarian or Library Media Specialist certification preferred; National Board Certification a major plus • 3+ years of successful teaching or school-library experience • Leadership experience preferred; college-preparatory, independent, Jewish day, or faith-based school experience is a plus • Being Jewish is not a requirement for this role Salary: $77,543–$137,099, based on the school's faculty salary schedule, plus a leadership differential of $4,000–$8,000 determined by years of leadership experience. Benefits: • Paid time off and holiday pay • Medical insurance • 401(k) with employer match Davis School Chicago is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
