The Role
Joining our global Corporate Finance team, the Analyst will be based in our Los Angeles office and play an active role in Kobalt’s deal processes. Working closely with A&R, senior management and Legal, the team provides financial analysis to support the signing of artists and songwriters, catalogue acquisitions and broader financial and strategic analysis.
You’ll be responsible for analysing potential investments, building and managing financial models, evaluating streaming and royalty data, and developing recommendations to support deal decisions. This role requires strong financial and analytical judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple live deals and priorities in a fast-moving environment.
What You’ll Do
Partner with the A&R team to analyse new signing opportunities and provide financial insight to support deal negotiations.
Build and manage financial models in Excel to evaluate musical assets, analysing streaming and royalty data and forecasting future cash flows to inform valuations and potential offers.
Develop a point of view on potential investments, identifying key opportunities, risks and sensitivities and making recommendations based on your analysis.
Prepare investment memos that clearly communicate key findings and recommendations to A&R and senior management.
Conduct financial analysis to test and refine investment assumptions and support wider strategic and commercial projects across the team.
Work with large and varied datasets, identifying trends and translating analysis into clear commercial insights.
Manage multiple live deal processes and analytical requests, working closely with stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
Identify opportunities to improve modelling, analysis and team workflows through automation and new technology.
What You’ll Bring
A strong interest in music and a desire to make the industry fairer and more rewarding for creators.
A relevant background in Finance, including a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Economics, and 1-2 years experience in a finance or music industry role.
Strong Excel skills and some experience building and managing financial models is beneficial.
Experience analysing financial or commercial data and using it to form opinions and recommendations.
The ability to assess the merits, risks and key assumptions of potential investments and confidently discuss your conclusions.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present financial analysis clearly to different stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deals, data inputs and stakeholders within tight deadlines.
An interest in using automation and technology to improve financial analysis and team workflows.
Additional Skills That Could Add Value:
Experience using SQL to query and analyse data.
Experience with Python, Tableau or other data and visualisation tools.
Knowledge of the music industry, particularly music publishing, recorded music or music rights.
Experience valuing assets, forecasting cash flows or assessing investment opportunities.
