Responsibilities
In the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer, we'll count on you to:
Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project
Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
Coordinate workload to complete the document on schedule
Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
Review mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
Write and edit mechanical specifications. Select equipment, mechanical systems and devices
Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
Provide construction contract administration as needed
Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Mechanical Project Engineers, Mechanical Project Coordinators or Mechanical CAD Technicians as needed
Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Data Centre, Semiconductor, Healthcare, Laboratory or Sports facilities experience
Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired
Experience using AI productivity tools to accelerate project workstreams including technical writing, code and specification research, and performance simulation and modelling
Strong communication and listening skills. Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
Good organizational skills, confident curiosity, strong analytical judgment, leadership potential
Ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI-generated outputs (calculations, code interpretations, and routing designs) against core mechanical engineering fundamentals and regulations.
Other Job Details
Further, the position requires:
Compliance with HDR and, as applicable, contractor safety policies and procedures.
Potential attendance at job sites to support design and construction activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings
Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD
Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience
Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
