The Department of Medicine is seeking to hire a Staff Research Associate 1 to support research focused on the genetic and molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. Our laboratory uses a combination of large-scale human genetic studies, bioinformatics approaches, and experimental research in cell and mouse models to identify and validate genes that contribute to cardiovascular disease risk.
The successful candidate will perform bioinformatics and genetic data analyses, manage research databases, assist with mammalian cell culture and mouse colony maintenance, and support general laboratory operations. Qualified candidates should have experience with bioinformatics, programming, and basic molecular biology techniques. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, able to maintain accurate records, works well in a collaborative environment, and possesses strong communication skills. Experience with mouse handling and PCR-based genotyping is preferred.
Hourly range: $30.12-$35.92

Required:
BS/BA in Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related discipline and or equivalent combination of education and experience
1+ years experience working in a laboratory
1+ years experience with bioinformatics pipelines, AI tools, coding languages
Experience using basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometer, PCR machines, pH meter, balances, gel documentation) and familiar with both PC and Apple computer systems and software programs (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Required
Good work ethic, strong communication skills, honesty, ability to work well with minimum supervision or as a part of a group. Required
Understanding of University procedures and policies for working with biohazard, hazardous chemicals, and their disposal. Required
Experience with bioinformatics pipelines, AI tools, coding languages (R, Python, etc), and knowledge of statistical or machine learning frameworks. Required
Experience with DNA/RNA isolation, agarose/acrylamide gel electrophoresis. Required
Experience in laboratory safety training. Required
Preferred:
Experience in cell culture and cell transfection, and Western blotting. Required
