Americas Signaling Leader

The opportunity

Lead and grow Arup’s rail signaling capability across the Americas, establishing technical excellence and best practices.

Manage and mentor signaling engineers and subject matter experts, supporting recruitment, development, and succession planning.

Provide technical leadership for complex rail signaling and train control projects from concept through implementation.

Own and oversee signaling design processes where Arup serves as the prime or lead designer.

Ensure compliance with quality, safety, regulatory, and client requirements across all signaling projects.

Lead systems engineering, integration, verification, validation, and assurance activities for rail systems.

Build and maintain strong client, partner, and industry relationships across North America.

Support business development efforts, including pursuits, proposals, and strategic market positioning.

Provide commercial oversight, resource planning, and project delivery leadership to achieve business objectives.

Collaborate with regional and global leaders to strengthen Arup’s rail systems practice and reputation.

The successful candidate will bring experience across light rail, metro, commuter, regional, high-speed rail, or automated people mover environments. Experience across multiple rail modes is an asset.

Key disciplines may include rolling stock, signalling and train control, communications, traffic management systems, traction power, permanent way, systems engineering and integration, safety, RAM, EMC, EMI, noise and vibration, performance modelling, timetable modelling, network modelling, power modelling, and asset management.

Is this role right for you?

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 15 years of experience in rail systems and signaling engineering.
Extensive experience delivering complex rail signaling projects from design through commissioning and entry into service.
Strong expertise in signaling and train control systems, including CBTC, PTC, ETCS, or CTC.
Proven experience in systems engineering, systems integration, verification & validation (V&V), RAMS, and rail systems assurance.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and major infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of railway industry standards and safety frameworks, including CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, and EN standards.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and an established client network in Canada and/or the United States are considered strong assets.
